FAQ
Application and Lottery Process
When am I eligible for a Vision Trip?
Any full-time employee who has been working for at least one year is eligible. You can apply before your one-year anniversary, but the trip must take place after your one-year anniversary.
If I went on a Vision Trip in 2026, am I eligible to go again in 2027?
No. Employees are eligible to participate in a Vision Trip every other year, unless they are selected as a guest.
If I was selected for a trip but had to withdraw, am I still eligible to participate the following year?
Yes. As long as you did not participate and go on a Vision Trip, you are eligible the next year.
If I am not selected as a participant, can I participate as an employee guest the following year?
Yes.
Are there any opportunities for part-time employees to participate?
Not as of this year. Vision Trips are currently offered to full-time employees.
Guests & Family Members
Who can be a Guest?
Anyone 18 years or older can be a guest. You can bring a sibling, friend, spouse, parent, or child. The choice is up to you!
Does the financial policy apply to employees and guests in the same way?
Yes. Any Vision Trip participant (employee or guest) is 100% covered for their first trip. Their second and more is 75% covered.
Can an employee guest use Ministry Leave for the trip?
Yes. Employees can use their Ministry Leave in whatever capacity they desire.
Is there a deadline for adding a guest after being selected for a trip?
Yes. We can make any changes to your guest choices up to 3 months before your selected trip.
Ministry Leave & PTO
What happens to Vision Trip leave beginning in 2027?
Vision Trip leave will no longer be offered. Instead, an employee can use Ministry Leave or PTO to participate in a Vision Trip.
If I use all my Ministry Leave, can I receive additional Ministry Leave hours for a Vision Trip?
You will only receive additional Ministry Leave hours if a Vision Trip requires more than 40 hours. If you have used some of your Ministry Leave already, you can supplement with PTO.
Can employees gift PTO to another employee?
Yes. Reach out to HR and they can assist you in this request.
How does Vision Trip leave work with a sabbatical?
An employee can participate in a Vision Trip if they are also on Sabbatical Leave.
When will trip selections be announced?
Before November.
Is the lottery truly random?
Mostly. We put names in a hat of their first trip preference, but we have to check each name to make sure they are not on the same team. We also do our best to make sure there is an appropriate ratio for men and women on a trip. Other than that, it is pretty much random!
Is there any advantage to submitting an application as soon as applications open?
No. The selection is not first come, first serve.
If I am not selected for a trip, will I be notified?
Yes, you will receive an email letting you know that you have not been selected and also if you are on the waitlist for a trip.
If I am waitlisted for my first-choice trip, am I still eligible to be selected for my second-choice trip?
Yes. We will place you in the lottery drawing for your three trip preferences and if you are not selected or placed on a waitlist, you will be informed.
What to Expect on a Trip
Will participants receive an itinerary outlining what they will be doing each day?
For the most part. You will receive a rough itinerary within the month before the trip once we have finalized details with our Ministry Partner.
How much free time will participants have during the trip?
Each trip is different, but some trips offer exploration or free time depending on the location and the Ministry Partner itinerary.
Cancellations
What do I do if I need to cancel my Vision Trip?
For the full policy on cancellations, see the vision trip policy guide. There is a $50 cancellation fee per person plus any non-reimbursable costs already paid by the company.
Will the Company ever cancel a trip? If so, why?
Yes, the Company may cancel trips. We will rely on conversations with the ministry partner and keeping an eye on current events to make sure that teams are safe. If a ministry partner suggests cancelling, we will take their advice. We also subscribe to embassy/state department alerts for the countries we are visiting.
What happens if my trip gets cancelled?
If your trip gets canceled by the Company you will receive a refund of any personal funds invested in the trip as well as priority placement for the following year.
Other Questions
Are there other ways to participate in a Vision Trip if I am not selected through the lottery?
Unfortunately, no. You may be added to a waitlist if your name is drawn and may get a call if someone backs out throughout the year. If not selected, you'll need to try again the next year.
How can I connect with previous participants to learn more about a particular trip or ministry partner?
Feel free to reach out to the Connection Team and we can connect you with some references.
